Ice Festival

The most famous freshwater lake in the country, Khuvsgul Lake, located in northern Mongolia, begins to freeze in December and remains frozen until June of the next year. During the Ice Festival held every March 3rd and 4th, the lake is lined with ice gels and decorated with ice sculptures made by villagers and experts. Horse sledding, dog sledding, reindeer races, skating, sumo wrestling, tug-of-war, and shamanic ceremonies at night. The number of foreign tourists who participate in ice festivals is increasing year by year.
