Dornod Province

Dornod, located 600 km from Ulaanbaatar, is the easternmost province of Mongolia. It is the province where the Nomonhan Incident occurred in 1939. During the socialist era, it had strong ties with the Soviet Union, and there was a time when it was connected to Moscow instead of the capital, Ulaanbaatar, by railway. The Menen grassland in Dornod province is the largest in Mongolia (about 90 km north to south and 60 km east to west). There are also numerous natural beauties such as Kherlen, Onon, the river Halcha, Hof and Lake Buir. The prefecture is rich in natural resources such as petroleum, uranium, and coal, and is expected to develop the mining industry in the future.
